Land at Orsett Quarry, Orsett

Mosaic was commissioned to prepare a Vision Document to support the site’s allocation in the Local Plan for the delivery of 250 to 350 new homes. The masterplan represents a new, high-quality addition to Southfields that addresses the challenge of climate change and supports the Council’s emerging approach to comprehensive and sustainable placemaking for the settlement. The site is currently derelict, underutilised, of little ecological value, and not accessible to the public. Redeveloping it would significantly enhance its contribution to Southfields and the wider Borough. Based on the principles of “Living Locally” and the “20 minute neighbourhood,” the land at Orsett Quarry offers a sustainable, unconstrained, visually hidden, and feasible location for much-needed new homes while also having the potential to accommodate community infrastructure if necessary.
